History

In 1942 our founder, George Krapf, Jr. was approached by the Twin Valley, PA School District and asked if he would be willing to operate and maintain their first ever school bus. Because of his experience and skill in maintenance and vehicle operation and as a respected member of the community, the school district leadership felt there was no one else more qualified to handle the responsibility of transporting their children to and from school. Co-founder Eleanor (Grammie) Krapf is said to have been the second woman in the state of Pennsylvania to hold a CDL and drive a school bus.

Three generations later, the Krapf family of student transportation companies has grown into one of the largest and most respected family owned bus companies in the nation, utilizing over 2,500 vehicles to transport more than 155,000 students.

Operating in multiple cities and districts through affiliate subsidiaries, such as MVT, the Krapf family of companies employs local individuals to manage their facilities with oversite by the corporate offices in West Chester, PA.

Mountain Valley Transportation, Inc. (MVT) was formed as a subsidiary of Krapf Bus Companies when after a thorough evaluation process the Roanoke City Public School District chose Krapf from among several student transportation providers to assist them with their school transportation needs.

The story of Roanoke City Schools conversion from a district managed system to MVT-Krapf is an example of how well Mission Focus can work. Today MVT operates more than 135 routes in the Roanoke area with an impeccable record of safety and reliability, allowing Roanoke City Schools to focus on their mission critical responsibilities, educating the students of the Roanoke Valley area.
